Deeply informed by the owner’s love for hosting and passion for coffee, this three-bedroom apartment in the east departed from the typical apartment layout and was designed as an apartment with an alter ego that melds two distinct, separate functions—a café and a home.
Designed as an open yet private space, a full-height curved wall in the foyer area creates a separation between the outside and internal living space upon entering. It serves both as a TV wall on one side and seating area on the other, maximising functionality while keeping to the concept of duality.
With the island as a focal point of this apartment, centred around hosting, loose and informal seatings were created around the main living space to create conversations and interactions between the owner and their guest.
Taking cues from the owners' heritage, a low bench clad in grey Peranakan tiles imbues a modern take on their heritage.
A low coffee bar integrated into the island allows for a more intimate interaction while making and serving coffee. Clad in stainless steel for ease of maintenance and accented with re-constituted wood from OneWood that provides warmth and durability, the island was designed as a standout yet functional piece of the apartment.
